Claiming Business Mileage in a Private Vehicle.
Claiming Business Mileage in a Private Vehicle: What You Need to Know

If you use your own car for business journeys, you can claim Mileage Allowance Relief (MAR) to cover your costs. Here's a quick guide:
1. HMRC Approved Mileage Rates
First 10,000 miles: 45p per mile
Over 10,000 miles: 25p per mile
These rates cover fuel, maintenance, insurance, and vehicle depreciation.
2. Keep Accurate Records
Maintain a log of each trip including:
Date of travel
Destination and purpose
Miles driven
3. Submitting Your Claim
If you're an employee: Submit a mileage claim to your employer.
If your employer pays less than HMRC's rate, you can claim tax relief on the difference via a Self Assessment or P87 form.
4. Avoid Common Mistakes
Don't claim for commuting to your usual workplace – only business journeys count.
Round mileage accurately; HMRC may check your log.
Don't miss out on claiming proper mileage expenses.
Ensure you're reimbursed fairly while staying compliant with HMRC rules and keep an accurate record.
Email me and I will send you a FREE milage claim journal in Excel format that will do all of the calculations for you.
